Acetal is the material used for the knocking insert on the top of all other handles in the Pullman Barista tamper range, and was chosen for that purpose because it is a resilient, high-impact material that is resistant to fracturing. Having a whole handle made from this material makes it particularly well suited to those who may like to knock the portafilter with the side of the handle rather than the top. The surface has been bead-blasted to provide a semi-soft tactile feel with a visually similar effect to the rubber in the base. Being warm to the touch and lighter than aluminium, Acetal provides a tamper with the balance and tactile benefits of hardwood (warm to the touch and bottom-heavy) but with the strength and durability of aluminium, so it is ideally suited to a commercial operator who prefers a bottom-heavy tamper; and as with the aluminium handled tamper, it can be washed or wiped as required.
Acetal may be a type of plastic, but it's not plastic in the sense that one may imagine plastic (cheap and tacky). Acetal is an expensive material, and like everything in our inventory it's there because of the performance qualities it offers. In the case of Acetal, these qualities are its extremely high-impact and high strength properties, and its ability to provide the strength of aluminium with the balance of wood. It has a very high-quality feel and finish.
Note:
- Tamper handles and tamper bases are sold separately. While they can be purchased separately if necessary, you require both a base and a handle for a complete tamper.
- Bases and handles from the Deluxe and Barista range are not interchangeable. If you are purchasing a Barista handle you must also purchase a Barista base for a complete Barista tamper. See the range of Barista bases available for purchase.
- The Barista tamper is ONLY AVAILABLE IN SIZES BETWEEN 57mm and 58.8mm. If your filter basket is smaller than this you will need to purchase a Deluxe tamper
