The Pullman Barista tamper has qualities that will appeal to commercial operators, however one of the reasons for the success of the Deluxe tamper has been the availability of quality hardwood handles. Hardwood Barista handles are similar in weight to the Acetal handle, which mean they make for a bottom-heavy tamper as sometimes preferred in a domestic situation, and the luxurious woods are sure to be a hit in any home barista kit! They are also suitable for commercial use, however the homogeneous nature of acetal and aluminium lend themselves better to this application than timber.
Most widely grown in Western Australia, Jarrah is a wood that is very popular for home furniture and floor boards. It's also the most common material used for garden stakes, so it's capable of withstanding a lot of punishment!
Pullman handles are all finished with a resin-loaded Danish Oil rather than a varnish. Varnish tends to chip and crack over time, whereas an oiled finish retains the natural feel of the wood and provides a surface that will go the distance.
Note:
- Tamper handles and tamper bases are sold separately. While they can be purchased separately if necessary, you require both a base and a handle for a complete tamper.
- Bases and handles from the Deluxe and Barista range are not interchangeable. If you are purchasing a Barista handle you must also purchase a Barista base for a complete Barista tamper. See the range of Barista bases available for purchase.
- The Barista tamper is ONLY AVAILABLE IN SIZES BETWEEN 57mm and 58.8mm. If your filter basket is smaller than this you will need to purchase a Deluxe tamper
