We generally recommend the Synesso brand filter baskets, but some portafilters are quite bowl-shaped and a Synesso basket won't fit - the vertical walls hit the portafilter before the basket is fully engaged. In these cases the Sunbeam unit is ideal! As you can see from the photo below the walls of the Sunbeam basket neck in a lot more than the Synesso basket as well as being slightly shorter. So while the Sunbeam baskets carry about 1g less coffee than the Synesso baskets, they'll fit into portafilters which the Synesso's won't. They're the standard issue single floor (non-pressurised) double basket which comes with the Sunbeam EM6910 series espresso machine which is a well respected machine in its own right.
So which one do I choose?
The inside walls of your portafilter should start off vertical, then start to taper inwards towards the bottom. If the point at which this taper starts is less than 14mm (1.4cm) from the top edge of the portafilter, we recommend you choose this basket instead of a Synesso basket. La Cimbali portafilters are known to generally fall into this category.
Final caveat: While these baskets are known to be compatible with many machines accepting a 58mm filter basket, in most cases this will be an aftermarket part for your machine, and the nature of aftermarket parts is that there will be some differences to your original basket which may affect the way it fits or performs. While we are more than happy to discuss the suitability of this part for your machine or help out if the basket turns out to be incompatible with your machine, we can never know the fine details of every machine on the market so ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure the part is compatible with your machine when you receive it. Put simply, we are a retailer of the basket - we don't make any claim that it will necessarily work in your machine even though it works in nearly everyone else's.
