Pullman Tampers have always been an Australian product. They're always been made here in Australia by local craftsmen using local materials and local expertise, and this tradition continues to today. Comparing a Pullman Tamperwith an overseas product
We regularly get correspondence from offshore manufacturers offering to make our tampers for about a quarter of what it costs us to do it locally. While this is a financially attractive option which many others have pursued, we're convinced this would be the wrong thing to do by our product and our customers. We've compared the workmanship from these developing countries with what our local experts can product, and as this example photo shows it is rarely of the standard we know we can get locally. The materials used by our Australian manufacturers are sourced from expensive European steel smelters meaning a consistently high quality and long lasting product, as contrasted to the cheaper materials produced in these developing countries which have a poorer finish and a tendency to rust and corrode. And of course with local production, we deal directly with the workshop manager and in some cases the toolmaker himself who makes the parts for us. That means it's easy to fix up any problems that arise and there are no language or distance barriers in trying to get the product right.
Anyone can claim to sell an Australian product, but without independent verification there's no way to vouch for the accuracy of those claims - and to date no-one else has backed up their claim by being a part of the Australian Made Campaign.
